Day 28

Ok, so I have another friend in town that's been doing post production for about 9 months in LA. So, I dropped her a line last night on facebook and turned out she had time to grab lunch with us today. So, we met her at an awesome bakery in Burbank called Portos. The highlight food item was the deep fried mashed potato balls. Oh so yummy, but I digress. We had a lot of questions about life in LA and jobs and it was a very good lunch. I wasn't sure what the job market looked like and I wasn't sure exactly what jobs I would go after, but after talking to her we found that there are editing jobs available, but more importantly, there are edit technician jobs available. That is an important detail because it's a big part of what I've been doing at Kensington over the last few years. I have always wanted to work in LA, but was never quite able to make it happen because of personal or professional circumstannces, but a lot of that stuff is not an issue so much right now. In fact, a lot of the details seem to line up. Ok, and this for the techies, turns out my experience with Avid is a big plus. I have also learned how to edit with Final Cut over the past two years, but most of the post houses out here are using Avid and I have a ton of background with it. There was sort of a magic moment in our conversation where all those college dreams of working here came back to the surface. Nothing is definitve, but she is going to make some calls and see what she can find out for me, so we will see what the following weeks bring. So, after the conversation we decided to check out a few more neighborhoods in the area, we hit the beach one more time for Ethan, got some fabulously cheap sushi, but it was still really good and then headed to the hotel for the night. We're extending LA one more day to check out the area a bit more. We want to get a good idea of areas to live in because this could be a really good possibility.
