Day 12

Well, this was a definite change of plans kind of day. Nothing in Shamrock opens until 8am. So, I set my alarm for 7:45am and started calling around to see who could look at the van. I finally found a little shop in town to take a look at it. When I pulled up I wasn't sure what to think. It looked more like a junkyard than a repair shop, but hey, they're all I got. He agreed to take a look right away. I think that means something different in Shamrock than it does in Detroit. About 45 minutes later he looked at it. Found out we have a pretty major transmission issue, but he couldn't really give me a specific estimation of the problem. He said he could send it to a guy in Amarillo to get it fixed, but it would probably take 3-4 days. Well, I don't want to be in Shamrock that long, so we decided to load it up with a fresh batch of transmission fluid and we hit the road for Amarillo ourselves. After driving slowly and getting out to check it every 30 miles we ended up going to Scottie's Transmission in Amarillo. Turns out we have a broken seal. At least from what they can tell. So, we rented a hotel room, got everything out of the van and dropped it off there. He said it would take until at least tomorrow afternoon to get it fixed. We're just hoping no major damage was done. If so, we might have to get it rebuilt. That would suck. It's very expensive.
So, after we got settled we went to go see Race to Witch Mountain, pretty fun flick actually. We picked a hotel that's pretty close to a lot of stuff by foot. When we got back we were ready for dinner. We found a place that offers a free limo ride to their restaurant- The Big Texan. Home of the free 72oz steak, well if you eat it and a variety of other things in under an hour. The place was a hoot. I always wanted to say that and it seemed appropriate for this place. It is the most stereotypical Texan place we have been to in all of Texas. Check out the pictures. After that, a ride back, a little catching up with people and off to bed. We'll see what tomorrow brings with the repairs.
