Bekah and I went to a little German church yesterday morning for their Sunday service.  It was only about a 10 minute walk away from our apartment and a lot of the OM people go there.  There are probably only about 50 people in the church.  Sometimes people are willing to translate into English when visitors come and Kira has used people before.  She found a guy that was willing to translate for us so he sat next to me and Bekah.  They sang several hymns that I didn't recognize so I tried to sing along in German.  It actually helps your German pronunciation quite a bit.  There was only one song that I recognized so I was able to sing the English.  Our translator did a good job translating the sermon though it was more of a summary as we went along rather than a direct translation.  It was an interesting experience overall, particularly when they looked to us to introduce ourselves as guests in the service.  After a few awkward moments of silence where we didn't know if we should do it in English, attempt German, or sit there and do nothing, we chose the last option.  Kira stood up and did an English introduction for us which someone translated.  They were all nice and welcoming though.

After going home for our pasta leftovers from the night before, we decided to do some exploration of Mosbach on our own.  Our apartment building is at the base of a mountain and I really wanted to see Mosbach from above, so we wandered through some streets near houses that were on the side of the mountain until we found some good staircases that eventually led us to a row of houses with a pathway into the forest.  We were probably at least a third of the way up the mountain at that point.  There was a really nice winding path through the lush forest on the mountain.  Whenever we found a break in the trees, there was another gorgeous view overlooking our quaint city of Mosbach.  There were a few random things along the way like a small gazebo, a bench, and a little faucet thing.  It was such a beautiful day that we couldn't believe we only saw one other person wandering through the forest.  We knew we were getting close to the top of the mountain and it looked like a clearing was up there, so we kept going.  After a few turns on some different paths we made our way all the way to the top where a huge field was.  A crop was being grown there so the grass and plants were all about two feet high and the sun was shining and the sea of grass was blowing in the wind.  It just makes you want to break out into "The hills are alive...with the sound of music..."  Ok, so we actually did do that a couple of times.  I mean how can you help it when you're on top of a gorgeous mountain in Germany like that?  We headed down after that, way impressed with the romantic little path up the mountain we found.

We headed straight down to the city center after our hike.  The little wooden framed buildings are adorable!  We wandered through the streets and most of the shops were closed because it was Sunday.  The only things open were some cafes and restaurants.  There was a number of people walking about though.  We wandered into an old church that is a few hundred years old and the strange thing is that a partition was eventually built in the middle of the church so now the south side is an Evangelical church and the north side is a Catholic church.  As we were sitting on a bench outside the church, a lady came up to us and asked us in German if we knew of a place to go for a coffee.  I'm not really sure why she asked us cuz there was only one way that really looked like it would have any cafes.  I tried speaking German and said my German isn't very good but perhaps go over there for something to drink and I pointed to the center of town.  She didn't seem totally satisfied with such a general answer but I tried.  We headed back through the town center and went to a little ice cream cafe.  We had heard about them and wanted to try it.  They pretty much only serve ice cream but it's the most amazing creations ever.  Fresh fruit sticking out in elaborate ways, fancy dishes, ice cream in the shape of spaghetti...the pictures on the menu were crazy.  We got 2 different ones and split them.  One was in a tall glass with strawberry and vanilla ice cream and whip cream with fresh strawberry and kiwi arranged on top with a wafer sticking out.  The other was chocolate ice cream squeezed out to look like a pile of spaghetti and it had whip cream, nuts, and some other stuff on top.  We were so impressed and they were incredibly delicious!

We went to the office after all our afternoon adventures to use the computers and figure out what we wanted to do today.  We spent quite a bit of time there and in one of the OM buildings was a piano on the top floor so since someone had given me permission to use it, I went up there to practice for almost an hour.  It felt good to be at a piano again!  After a while a little girl about 8 years old came in with what appeared to be about a 3 year old brother.  She didn't speak English and after a minute of watching me play she came over to me and told me in German that she plays piano too.  Then she sat down next to me and played a little bit of what she knew.  I told her it was good, which it was for a kid her age, and asked her how long she had played.  She said about 2 years.  Though it was a simple 20 second conversation with an 8 year old kid, I was so happy to practice my German lol.  Apparently there was going to be a service in that room at 8:00 and people were starting to gather in there so I eventually left at 7:30.

Bekah and I went home for out leftover pancakes that we were very excited about and hung out.  At about 10:45 she finished watching a movie on her iPod and we got to talking.  somehow the time managed to get to 2:30am and we were still sitting there talking!  We couldn't believe how late it had gotten to be!  We eventually got to bed but we'll be tired today!  Today is a holiday in Germany so we don't have to go to work but we are headed out to see the country and a castle or two!
