Presidential Classroom

The week in Washington D.C. was amazing! As a 16 year old junior in high school, I had never gone somewhere out of state all by myself. When I got the scholarship for P.C. though, I knew I couldn't turn down the opportunity! I made it to Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C. and found the Presidential Classroom crew that took me to Georgetown University where we would all be staying.
I had 3 other roommates for the week from all different parts of the country and world.
Other friends that I made throughout the week came from a huge variety of places. There were about 300 students in the program.
Our week included tours to the Dulles Air and Space Museum,
the Capitol building (including the House floor where tourists are not allowed), the Smithsonians at the national mall, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery for the changing of the guard ceremony, and many others!
We had a chance to speak with the congressman from our individual states in their private offices on Capitol Hill. We had a party one evening where we were able to mingle with guests such as the CEO of Honeywell, several senators, ambassadors, and representatives, as well as other honorable guests. We were able to attend lectures from people such as a congressman from Texas speaking to us on the House floor and other leading scientists and inventors today that spoke to us at the Georgetown conference center.
Our touring and listening to speeches were broken up by caucus meetings and crossfire sessions where we worked and debated with other students on controversial and important topics in the world today.
The week ended with a banquet (at which I played the piano for the talent show part) and a dance. The final caucus meeting was sad knowing that you had to leave the people that you had just spent such an amazing week with. The adventure was worth it for everyone!
