15th July 2007 - Banff

Today we went for a hike along Maligne Canyon which was really beautiful. It was cool in the morning after all of the rain and the rocks we were walking over were very slippery. After the hike in the canyon we went to Maligne Lake and took a boat ride to Spirit Island and the Home of the Gods. I tell you what, if I were a God I would live there, it was so beautiful. That is half the problem, everywhere you look is picture perfect.

The guide on the boat told us all about the area and how the mountains were named after the Beaver Family. Spirit Island is very small but it was worth the boat ride. The weather cleared up too which was great.

To top the day off we headed to the Hot Springs and they were sooooo nice, our feet still recovering from blisters got a nice treat. We mucked around by staying in the hot pools and then jumping into the cold ones a few times. Everyone was in favour of going out to town for dinner which meant no dishes!

16th July 2007 - Johnson Canyon - Banff

Today we headed off to Althabasca Falls before the Glacier walk on Athabasca Glacier. I bought sunglasses because the sun was going to create some glare and then 5 min later lost them. I am never buying sunnies again. There were so many bus load of tourists at the Falls. I loved the fact that for the most part we were in places that most travellers would miss.

The Glacier walk was great, the guide Jasmine really knew her stuff. She has been touring and mountainering for 5 years. She lead us up the Glacier and talked through the dangers of the ice. I was shocked to see people walking their little children onto the snow (which is the most dangerous place for caverns) in inapproriate clothing.

That night we were all mozzie bait, we went and hid in the tents early.
