After a early night I got woken up by the sound of very hung over bikies, whom had a little too much to drink at the Canada Day celebrations. I made my way down to the water taxi and meet Matt (Kiwi guy who is travelling with his girlfriend around the world) one of our guides and Jack the boat captain
We arrvied to Orca Base Camp and meet our other guide John (a local guy from Ottawa). So the seven of us in the rain moved all of our gear and then had a orientation and then straight onto the water. Then it was dinner and bed. The camp site was amazing we had a shower (not a great one but a shower) a kitchen with BBQ and great Tents. I got a 4 person tent all to myself! The hill up to our tents was a huge work out and walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night was not fun, it took about 5 min. Siti and Dan that head lamp was a life saver!
The first day may have rained but the rest of the weather was just amazing. We went hiking up to a Orca Research facility which was a challenging walk through rain forest. We went exploring a large cove called Growler Cove, island hoping through the Sophias checking out the marine life in the shallows and river otters
We had three local Ravens, Edgar, Alan and Poe and Charlie the local Harbour seal and a family of Harliquin Ducks every night keep us company. We even had a visit from a river otter on our beach. Every night we ate dinner out on the beach and watched the sun set. I made the biggest camp fire which everyone just kept adding wood onto and we had smores and played some pretty silly games. I educated everyone about their star signs and what they might say about thier personalities.
The fourth day we hiked up to a waterfall which was a really techincal hike, very steep and slippery but so worth it. No one got hurt at all, just a few slidy moments, I am very glad I bought these shoes.
The last day we went out onto the water early and then packed. We ended up waiting for 4 hours for the boat cause it broke down on the way to get us, but John made pancakes and we made up games on the beach. I got back into the hotel and man was it ever good to have a shower and wash my hair.
The trip was so much fun, I got toally sunburt (being a Ozzie you would think I would know better!) and on my lips which really hurts but it is my own stupid fault. I head back to Vancouver today. So Sea Kyaking, I really recommend it.
