The countdown has begun. We are just over a week away from starting the international portion of our circumnavigation of planet Earth. It sounds weird when you say it like that.  If we go around eastward, do we have to go around westward to unwind? ... :o)

8:  Leaving my parents after a productive and wonderful visit we headed south to Crater Lake.  Almost two years ago, we tried to see Crater Lake in the winter and even though we were less than 20 feet from the rim of the caldera, we could not see 10 feet in front of us as it was snowing.  This time it was snowing again (the week before it dumped 50 inches and closed all but the main entrance road), but it was a beautiful day, really really cold, and there was a great view of Wizard Island and the steep caldrea walls.

7:  From Crater Lake, we drove to Reno, Nevada to visit my good friend Chris, his wife Nicole, and their daughter Isabella. In true form, Chris greeted us and we immediately started flying his RC piper cub model airplane around his cull-de-sac. For dinner, Chris and Nicole let us take over their kitchen and make a yummy chicken satay salad - grilled chicken over salad with a peanut sauce dressing. The next day after playing with Izzi in the morning, Chris treated both Adar and I with flights in an acrobatic plane over Lake Tahoe. The flights and the views were amazing, and the memories, unforgettable. Thanks again Chris - It was great to see you as always.

6, 5: Life is not always all play and Adar and I had some errands to run in Oakland and Palo Alto so we headed to San Jose to visit our good friends Josh and Christine.  We met Josh and Christine when a common friend of ours Steve, introduced us to them and to Burning Man, where Adar and I got engaged.  As luck would have it, Terry (another common friend) brought Steve and his bride Jeannette over to visit.  Steve and Jeannette were just returning from their honeymoon in Hawaii and were passing through town. An impromptu meal with good wine and several stories and laughs made for a great night with friends. For the errands, we corrected some banking errors, purchased airline tickets to Nepal and got an awesome tour of Google by Josh. Thanks again Josh for the sensor cleaning and the memorable tour.

4: With a quick stop in Santa Cruz to see a good friend Stephanie (thanks for meeting us at short notice), we headed down into Big Sur for the night. A beautiful drive down Highway 1 and a quick lunch stop in San Luis Obispo broke up the day before we headed into Pasadena for some more last minute errands. The highlight was dropping by our optometrist where after over a year of getting fitted for new contacts, Adar was finally able to find a pair that worked. A special Thanks to Dr. L for the very appreciated gift as we no longer had insurance to pay for the contacts! I am not sure how, but Adar and I really know how to eek the most out of a day.

3,2,1: The last few days were a blur of driving and great food.  We stayed with my grandmother, Mimi, who in true from cooked us many delicious meals (thank you Mimi!). About a month ago, Adar and I took Mimi to an early birthday dinner and Adar mentioned that she liked mac-n-cheese. Because of this Mimi made a really rich and very delicious mac-n-cheese with chunks of ham for us and several wonderful breakfasts. We saw my cousins and their children at another delicious dinner in Costa Mesa and finished our culinary tour after completing our errands with a send off dinner at our favorite Thai place (Jitlada in Thai town) with my parents before heading to the airport (thanks Mom & Dad).

And we're off.....
