Was trying to decide whether or not to spend an extra night in Porto by catching an overnight bus and getting into Madrid at 6am to get to the airport and catch a flight by 11:30am>provided the bus didnt break down or run late as in Peru I would OK. Given I was in Spain I wasnt expecting to have any problems with the bus system but you never know and missing the flights to the states would have been a pain.
Worst case would be that the bus would be late and even then I would have a couple of hours spare.
Would be lucky if I didnt miss the flight since the bus only runs on friday and Sundays and it was Sunday. If I missed the plane then it would of been a bad idea.
Glad I came to Porto
Arrived in town around lunch time and once again the hostel didnt have a sign. Wonder if this is a typical thing in Portugal or whether its just the hostels I picked. New the street but could find the number. More importantly I was looking for a pink building and the building was such a dull pink I didnt recognise it. Thankfully a driver saw me looking confused and offered to help. Ended up point me in the right direction. Very strange. After being in Morocco it felt strange to get someone offering help without wanting something in return.
Decided to spend the day just wandering around the old part of town a bit before heading to the gardens near Palacio de Cristal. Had some nice views of the river from the gardens. from here headed down to and across the Bridge Ponte de Luis to see the city from the other side of the river.
Saw some kids standing on the bridge and attract a crowd. they all ended up jumping but it took them a while to sike themselves up before they did it
Caught up with Melainie that night at he hostel.
Decided to catch the public bus with Melainie along the river to the coast. In the end probably not a good idea since the whole place was fogged in and you couldnt see anything. Melainie only had a tshirt so she headed back after we reached the fort (which was small and not very exciting) while I headed to Parque da Cidade. Spent the day wander around the park and watching the geese prene thenselves. found that there were a lot of families spending the day in the park.
From here caught the bus back to the river and while the fog had only cleared a bit, decided to do the 6 bridge boat tour since it would be my only opportunity. Enjoyable boat ride with nice views of the city from the river. even the bridge being partly hidden by fog was cool though the fog did limit the views.
After the tour spent the last part of the day wandering along the river and the lower part of the bridge. Had been over the upper part the day before. Caught up with Melainie before leaving and then headed for the bus to Madris and hopefully the plane to the USA.
