Lots of narrow streets but thankfully had no problems finding the hostel. had decided to cut through a park and after a left, right, left, right, left right turn ended up within 20m of the hostel. Seemed like a nice enough place and had an Aussie working behind the desk when I arrived. Seems like he moved to Spain to learn Flaminco.
Seville like each town I've visited has a castle and big church. Decided to head out and see if I could fit the Alcazar and cathedral in before the end of the day. Lots of interesting buildings around the place with lots of character
Decided to do the Alcazar (castle) first. Found it to be an interesting building or should I say museum. Lots of art work, tapestries and muslim architecture around the place. Also a large interesting garden attached to it which was nice to wander through.
After the Alcazar tried to visit the cathedral but found that it closed an hour earlier than I expected and that I had spent more time wandering around the Alcazar than I had anticipated. Ended up deciding that it would be better to have more time in the cathedral so decided to leave it for when I returned to Seville.
Decided to instead to wander through town and head to the Toros Museum. This was basically a 1hr or so tour through the seville bull ring and attached museum. Had been considering going to a bull fight but Seville is the only place in spain where they still kill the bull at the end of the fight. Of coarse non of the killed bull is wasted but due to the bloodshed the bull fighting is not held on a regular basis
Small note of what I remeber about bull fighting. Its basically made up of 4 stages though Im not sure if I remeber this correctly at the moment, here goes. First is the lance and horse used to weaken and get the bull. Next is the test of courage which involved the cape. Third is the need to put 6 swords into the bull to show your courage. Finally is the kill. If the bull shows exception ferocity or spirit it is spared though this had only happened once in the history of the bull ring.
After the bull ring headed down to the second bus station by the river to get the times for the El Rocio bus and then wandered through town to the book shop to find some maps for the coming hikes before wandering through town a bit more back to the hostel.
Didnt end up going out since I wanted to repack and prepare for the hike. Talked to a couple of mexican girls travelling around spain and once again was told by a local that even though a country is reported as dangerous its not as dangerous as reported. Seems to support my opinion that if something bad happens to a tourist it tends to get reported as significant though not necessarily within the context of all the people who visit and have nothing go wrong. Tend to be of the opinion that provided you avoid certain areas and activities (or at least take the appropriate precations) you should have no problems. Of coarse that goes with the proviso that no matter what you do sometimes bad things just happen, such as having the bad luck by being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
