We've returned to Delhi! For my last day in India, Adam's co-worker, Jitin, took us on a tour of Old Delhi. It was great to see Delhi through the eyes of a local. We toured through the very confusing and windy streets of Old Delhi's markets, purchasing treasures and tasting delicious street food along the way. It's amazing the chaotic retrofitting that Old Delhi has gone through to bring its old structures into the 20th century. Electrical and telephone wires are strung precariously on the front of every building. Adam and I thought we had seen crowded streets in Jodhpur, but those pale in comparison to this area of Delhi. People form one moving mass down the street. What a spectacular final day in India!
As a treat, Adam and I dined at the Imperial Hotel's Spice Route restaurant and had one of the best meals we've had in India. Delicious Asian fusion food.
I barely made my international flight home, but all ends well as I am safely back home. It's all a bit of a culture shock: there is toilet paper in bathrooms, left-over Christmas and New Years decorations strung about, traffic that stays in proper lanes, supermarkets with a plethora of brands to choose from, the cleanliness of our apartment, no litter or trash on the streets, no beggars and blatant poverty, no vibrant and colorful clothing, no painted trucks or buildings....
