Probably one of the most fantastic cities I have ever been to in all my travels, a place where I could truly see myself living without any issues. How lucky we were to arrive in December though, for the first time in a long time I felt truly in the Christmas festivities. First you stumble upon the main square, which is backlight with a huge church lit up at night, mirrored by a bell tower where a trumpet is ceremonially played twice a day ever day, there is children singing in a choir with recorders, temporary wooden stores selling anything from hot wine, chorizo style sausages, traditional Czech donuts and washed down with the world famous local beer. Not to mention there is a huge Christmas tree about 20metres high and lit up like a firework…the atmosphere is incredible! Regardless of that, the bars and nightlife of the city are insane. The first night we were there we didn't get home until 6.30am..I mean, how does that even happen!!

The second night is when I caught up with a long lost friend from Loreto School in Edinburgh, some 7 years before. Lukas, a local from eastern Czech Republic, had been living in Prague for 5 years and invited us to stay with him for a couple of nights. His parents own the apartment and he made us feel right at home. Both nights we went out and drank great Czech beer, ate amazing food and got a real insight into the city of Prague.

If that wasn’t enough for us, we managed to go to a live Ice Hockey match on our last night. The sport is incredible, to say the least! We watched the home team (Kladno) who were the underdogs, beat the best team in the competition..and Liam and I had the most amazing time. Sheer entertainment, guys trying to kill each other with the attempt to smack a metal object at 150km/h at someone or something, whilst you drink beer for less than 1.00 euro each..that is my type of sport!

As you can tell, this is why Prague is number one for me! I would recommend anyone to go in December though to enjoy the festivities. The people are so kind, the girls are beautiful, and the food, the beer…the list is never ending. Go and check it out for yourself!! I know I’ll be back one day for sure..
