After the pleasant suprise of padangbai, we were hopeful for Ubud. Its described as the cultural centre of Bali. We are not disappointed :D
It has to be said, Bali is a beautiful place. Travelling from flores to lombok, the standard of ...well, everything, is pretty low for the cost. Weve paid nearly 10 dollars for a shit-hole of a room in Maumere, cos it was the best shit-hole in town. The standards remained the same as we travelled on. There just isnt the option of doing 'better', not at any cost. And basic here, MEANS BASIC! But in Bali, especially at the moment you can get some real bargains! Most of Bali is geared towards the mid to high range of traveller. Unfortunately due to recent events, there is hardly a soul here. Everywhere is dead. This means all the mid range hotels (and there are hundreds of them ) are having to cut their prices to get people in. Excellent news for us!!! Ubud, is inland, amomgst the rice terraces, in a lovely part of the country. There are shops and restaurants galore and it would be easy to waste a week or so here. Its pretty.
We have just checked in to a hotel, that is by far and away the POSHEST place we have EVER stayed in(on this trip).Weve taken some pics to prove it:D AND we got them down to 5 QUID! a night. Its got a BATHTUB!!! and a private veranda!!!and GOD ITS NICE!!!:D We may stay a while! Weve been checking out the cost of the tat today, and the same effect is being felt there...no tourists means big discounts. I just bought a beautiful hand made belt, made of shells (little ones) and beads for a massive 2 QUID ! Its lovely, like the sort of thing you see in debenhams for 25 quid! We may go crazy spending here. Theres sooooo much nice carved wood and stuff...its tooo tempting :D
