Flag of Turkey  , Yalova,
Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Spent a lot more time working with my new friend, Turkish geologist, Ulas (pronounced Ulash) today. We picked up a few that I'll need to help with logging. Afterwards we talked about working on the first borehole but then leaned about another delay in our schedule. So far we are 4 days behind schedule. Luckily they are planning on bringing in a second drilling rig. Still, it’s going to make getting me home on time a bit tight.

I wandered around Yalova a bit more today. This place is a total summer spot for tourists. There are a lot of Arabs that come here whom enjoy going to the Terma (hot springs) nearby. There is a really cool strip that parallels the coast line that has lots of cafes, restraints and ice cream parlors. I kind of wish I was staying here for the duration. From what I hear, Gebze is not known for its aesthetics. I’m slowly picking up the local lingo. I need to set up some flash cards and start really putting it into my head, and then using it more. I’m still doing a lot of pointing and using my hands.

Pictures look great. How is the food?

Food is really delicious but really greasy. In fact the dish I had today they brought out a pot of drippings from the grill where they cooked my food and poured it over the dish! I'm going to be on a straight fruit and vegetable diet when I get home.
