Ok, so I ended yesterday's post saying that it couldn't get any better. Well, unfortunately I am going to have to retract that statement and begin using the day I visited the Similan Islands as the baseline for all other amazing days.

After an early morning and quick breakfast, we were off on our way to one of the bluest, clearest beaches in the world. Dive the states (and I quote) "Without question, Similan Islands diving is the best that Thailand has to offer. No other region offers such a number of excellent dive sites and such wonderful diving as can be found in this protected national park." Though the 3 hour trip from Khaolak was tiring, the trip WAS WORTH IT!!!!! The water was clear, the fish abundant and the coral vibrant. With a couple of dives under out belt, April took us through some underwater drills which included the dreaded mast off swim around and some pretty cool navigation tests. Lucky for me my underwater navigation is better than my out of water navigation! (who knew?).

After a tiring couple of hours in the water, we retreated to a perfectly white sand beach for delicious homemade Thai food under the shade of gigantic plams and tropical mangrove looking trees. Did I mention that the island was covered in gigantic bats that made loud screaming noises? Crazy! But honestly, the bats were the size of some mid sized dogs, pretty nuts.

After some time on the beach, we headed back out into the water and then, unfortunately back to land. With a tight scheduled in front of us, we needed (and I mean needed) to catch the only bus out of town that was set to leave approximately 30 minutes after we arrived to land. That meant that there was no room for error. We had to arrive, rinse off, pay SDS, and catch our bus back so that we could make it back to Bangkok in time for our flight to Melbourne the follow day. Somehow, we pulled it off! Man what a close call and a great adventure!!!
