Where I stayed
During the trip we traced the historical gateway to the once epicenter of the world and all the way out to the Black Sea, the views were breathtaking. Once we finally made it to the Black Sea, we stopped in a small fishing village for about 2 hours. Since the town was so small and the boat would not let you board, we opted to walk in the rain up hill to the top of a nearby mountain to explore an ancient castle at the top (remember this area is more than 2000 years old!) So we pulled up our rain hoods, befriended a stray dog and headed up to the top of the mountain. (Check out some of the exciting video shot once we made it to the top)
Once we arrived to the top, we found a shell of a former stronghold that was badly destroyed over the years. Regardless of this, the structure was magnificent and the views were even more special! Imagine standing next to an ancient fortress on the top of a cliff overlooking the Bosphorous and the Black Sea! Check out the photos and video!
We scurried down the mountain to await our departure and grab a couple goodies to snack on the way back. Rick came through recommending the local bakery where we found fresh goodies including Turkish anchovy cornbread a Black Sea delicacy!
PS- See the pics of the best meal we enjoyed while in Istanbul
