Anywho, back to the story. So, my second realization (first don't pay in advance) was that I shouldn't be the person inspecting the apartments. Apparently I have lower standards than my wife!!!! The rooms, kitchen and furniture was great, but the bathrooms looked like it was from an old bus station. In retrospect, not a biggie for the standing demographic; but a big problem for the sitting (or soon to be hovering) demographic!
Once we locked up our valuables, we headed out into the night in search of monuments and major sites. First thing I found was a ton of sex shops and run down buildings. Third lesson was that Josehof is one of the sketchier parts of Pest and that you need to stay to the larger streets if you don't like getting mugged! But honestly, it wasn't really that bad.
First sight seeing stop, was Matthias Church and the Fisherman's Bastion on top of a cliff overlooking the city. The view was soooooo impressive! The whole area was designated a Unesco sight and about 5 square miles of the medieval town still remained. This area was a real treat and we were lucky to experience it at night in the cold on the 1st because there was no one up there. Also missing were any helpful locals that could point us the closest exit off the f-ing mountain! The maze of historic buildings was beautiful but also frustrating as we were stuck in the city for about 40 minutes searching for an exit!
Once we got to the bottom, we found a really great restaurant and got the nicest server we had had since the beginning of the trip. She helped us pick out some great things for the next couple of days and was kind enough to scare the crap out of Liliana about the neighborhood that we were staying in! (she really didn't sleep the first night because she was afraid that our car would be stolen).
After dinner, we ventured out to another castle and Federico decided to terrorize the family by driving through a public park ( on the walking path that is). It kind of reminded me when my dad would take us to the places that were awesome, but totally not to be trespassed on. After checking out some pretty cool sites (including the magnificent Parliament house) we headed back to the ghetto to tuck it in for the night.
