After feeling a little tired from the New Years festivities we headed out early for Budapest. On the way to Hungary, on Adam's request I must note, we specificallly drove to the site of a famous church known ''The Bone Church'' or Sedlec’s Church. This edifice was reconstructed and decorated around the time of the great plague (also known as the black death). What made the decorations so amazing were that the entire interior of the church was adorned with real human skeletons. See during the time of the black death, this church was believed to be a holy place because it was understood that dirt from Jerusalem was brought to this place approx. 300 years earlier. During the years of the plague more than 30,000 people died and space to bury the bodies began to run out. In order to address this issue, a monk began stacking the bones in large piles throughout the courtyard next to the church. In the 1800's the church was renovated by a skilled carpenter who decided to use the stacked bones for decoration throughout the small chapel. The result was an amazing array of wall art and chandeliers that are just too amazing to be real (best part is they are!) Check out the videos and vid caps to get a better look at the interior of the famous bone church.

After paying our respects and picking up a couple souveniers (none human) we headed out for Hungary.
