In order to recharge our batteries before the New Year's festivities we went back to the flat for some light fare and a little power nap before attending our anticipated Opera concert. Before taking off we prepared an array of beverages for us to quench our thirst for the night. Tati somehow convinced us to buy the local liquor and made a concoction of this syrup with grapefruit juice….I picked up a few bottles of Czech champagne just to be safe.
Before our concert we headed to the Mala Strana (the Old Town neighborhood adjacent to the famous Charles Bridge and Prague Castle) for a short tour. Despite the incessant rain ( after buying exorbitantly expensive umbrellas for my parents) we enjoyed a short stroll around the already bustling streets for the site of the evening fireworks.

After out taste for the opera and a couple of swigs of our poisonous Czech beverage in the parking lot, we headed off for what was to become one of the most enjoyable meals of our trip so far. Luckily I managed to score reservations for a Czech restaurant we spotted the first night we arrived. This smoky bar/brewery ended up serving us the most delicious feast of guilt full delicacies including goulash and roast duck topped off with liters of Czech beer, mouth watering to say the least…
After dinner it began to rain again so we decided to shelter at a local American bookstore/bar where the local 'couch surfers' had arranged a New Years get together, a couple of songs and lattes later we were standing on the bridge ready to greet in the New Year. Although it was hard to figure out how far from midnight we were, soon the bustling bang of fireworks from every corner reminded us of the end of the year 2009, after a couple of swigs straight from my sparkling Czech wine and finishing the magnificent firework show we were all ready to turn it in for the night.

A jam packed day full of adventures and new experiences,  I do miss my friends back home! I promise we'll be home before you know it so don't forget us and stay tuned for our upcoming adventures!

PS- On the morning of the 1st I finally go to visit the Charles Bridge (even though  I had passed near it multiple times over the last few days) I couldn't leave this place without visiting what is possibly the most famous site in Prague and not following my beloved friend Caren's instructions to take a picture there for her! ( Hope you're feeling better :))
