My trip is quickly drawing to an end. Exactly one week left before I have to fly out of Santiago, yet so much I want to do.

Mendoza is close to the Chilean border and is at the foot of the highest mountain outside the Himalays - Aconcagua rises to 7000m, however, it is impossible to scale it during the winter months, so I'll just admire it from afar.

The first day was a bit hectic. After getting to the bus station I decided to head straight to the hostel I'd found online - El Campo Base (or something like that) located a few blocks off the main plaza. However, there wasn't much going on and being placed at the top of a three tier bunk (that had a lot of black dirt/bugs on it) confirmed my decision to get out quick. I picked up a brochure and headed for Mendoza Inn, but the barbecue on that night meant that the place was packed. A few doors down I found Dajmuma Inn (again not sure on the spelling), and ended up paying the rip off 60 pesos for a night. I was so tired I just crashed and didn't wake up until the early evening. I did meet some cool people there, including a crazy American waster who was passing through fuelled on cocaine and drink. His entertaining stories kept us awake the whole day.

Today I was able to get a room in Mendoza Inn (despite being told that there were no rooms until Tuesday). A much livelier hostel, and much cheaper. At this point I was still in desperate need of sleep and crashed again until the afternoon. There's free tequila tonight, but I'll probably pass as I have to get up early tomorrow for a minibus tour of the surrounding mountains.
