Whilst I avoided the tourists (which is hard to do in a town that depends so much on them), the whole experience was quite enjoyable. I'm quite sure I was put in an all girls dorm (precisely a 15 bed room with 7 girls and myself - you can decide if that is statistical coincidence or not)
An early breakfast today, and I was ready to hit the dunes for some sand boarding. Just about the only thing to do in Huacachina is eat in extortionately priced 4-soles-per-coffee restaurants, surf the internet (again a rip off, at least compared to Huaraz) and sand board.
Our group set off in the afternoon when the sun was high and the breeze strong. Chapun drove the buggy across the sand and it felt like some crazy rollercoaster. After quickly waxing the boards we strapped in ready for the first run. Wipeout! I ended up rolling across the sand rather than gliding and after several failed attempts, I had to resort to lying down on the board. It was all great fun though.
Now, I am about to take the next bus back to Lima for a shower and my first shave in a while.
