Manila, Philippines - I was exhausted! After about an hours rest I catch a tricycle to the Boracay port. I then catch a short journey boat back to the dock at Caticlan. The owner of the cottage said my boat to Roxas on the island of Mindoro was at 8am, it was in fact at 10am. I found a bench and went back to sleep. I caught the four hour sweat box boat to Roxas. I slept some while most of the other passengers watched some very violent Filipino movie. Sweat was pouring off me, I felt gross! I'm sure a belly full of beer didn't help. At Roxas, I jumped into an air conditioned van that would take three hours to drive to Calapan in north Mindoro. On the way, we encountered farmlands stretching out for miles, local businesses that line the main road. In one town we were delayed by twenty minutes as an Xmas school street parade was taking place. Hundreds of children in formation, similar to a St Georges parade in the UK! Exciting, everyone dressed in Xmas outfits in the hot sun and humidity of the Philippines!

We just made it to Calapan dock in time to grab the 6pm boat to Batangas. The ride took 2.5 hours and the boat even had wifi! Sweet! From the dock of Batangas, it was a 2.5 bus ride to Manila. I managed to share a taxi to Malate but again the driver tried to rip me off, I gave him a fair price and left.

Reunited with my possessions I stored at the hostel in Manila (due to a 10kg limit on my flight to Caticlan), I got into bed and enjoyed a long night sleep!

Next morning I didn't wake till very late. I eventually found some food, ahem, burger machine, then met my CS friend Arcelle in the afternoon. She was sort of on time this time.

We took a couple of Jeepneys to Paco park but it was closed when we arrived. Instead, we walked around Rizal park. The park is fairly cute and green for the dark and grey sprawl of Manila. Rizal park is one of the precious few bits of green in Manila, the 60 hectare park offers the urbanites time to slow down and relax. I know Arcelle goes to Intramuros when she is a little stressed. We wandered around the park, taking in the Rizal monument and the Teodoro Valencia circle. The park also has a map of the Philippines in water, similar to that on This Morning when it was filmed in Liverpool. We continued to the parade ground, the recent stand off point for an ex cop who took tourists hostage and killed most of them. Luckily, I saw the sun set on Manila Bay and we set back off to Malate to grab some Ramen for dinner. We hung out for a couple of beers on the crazy streets of Malate, constantly being approached by begging children and old people also.

Arcelle and I chatted long into the night, she had an interesting experience at a meditation centre that I'm thinking about attending in India. To her, everything is temporary, and if we accept that, then circumstances and situations do not hurt as much or make you as angry. A very wise and confident lady for 24. Her father jokes that because she can't cook, her future husband will reject her, but her response is that she'll marry a chef!! Her cookie monster tshirt just summed up her laid back attitude and fun sense of humour and adventure. I quickly escaped the clutches of a few street walkers and got back into bed safely.

My final day in Manila included sleep, rest, getting lost in a crazy market trying to find an ATM, kids trying to rob me as I crossed a large road and lots of pot noodles.

I spend the night sleeping at Clark airport and then the following day and night chilling at LCCT in Kuala Lumpar.

Next stop, Perth, Australia via KL
