Where I stayed
With my friend Courtney
We walk back to her place, which is only ten minutes away and go for a coffee to catch up. I'm recommended a Nutella iced coffee! Very very tasty and a yuppie coffee shop. We sit and chat for hours! Literally, hours! Courtney is a diplomat and is currently studying French so she can work in the Democratic Republic of Congo, after already working in Uganda for two years. We catch up and try to decide on what to do with our time together in DC.
Sadly, there is no baseball game, and with Courtney having just finished her exams the day before, her mind wasn't in the right frame of mind to try entertain a gingerman.
Eventually, we decide on going to see a DC united game, but before hand, go grab some sushi. Sushi was awesome, we order a few random rolls and I drink a couple of margaritas.
It takes a little while to grab the subway to the game and we eventually enter the stadium twenty minutes into the game.
I figure I'd go get a couple of beers, sadly, I missed both first half goals live and ended up returning from buying the beers at half time. Some slow ass dudes were not pouring beer very quickly, it didn't help that everyone was paying by card!!
I attempt to grab another beer during the 2nd half but the line was long, far too long. The game finished 2-2, the quality was poor, and I feel bad saying it resembled division 1 in the UK, meaning I feel bad for the players who play in Division 1, but the pace is slow, there is no skill and very little goal action. However, the fans were awesome, going nuts every time DC scored.
I promised Courtney, anytime she was in the UK, I would show her a proper game.
We leave the stadium and walk through a pretty rough neighborhood to make our way to a bar called the Queen Vic to watch USA v Mexico in the final of the CONCAF. The bar is packed, the chants of USA USA USA are similar to the unimaginative chants of the USA Ryder Cup supporters. I finally find myself a pint of bitter as well, and down a few Boddingtons during the game. Seeing as Hernandez is playing for Mexico, I am routing for them! USA take a quick 2-0 lead but Mexico eventually win 4-2. It's a day of firsts. The first time I've seen an MLS game and the first time I've watched the USA play in a USA bar. I would hate to think of the laughing and cheering that went on when that shot from Dempsey spilled under Rob Greens body! Shocking!
Seeing as I had quite a few to drink, we call it a night. I enjoy being in DC, I did the tourist visit at the end of 2008 before I left the USA. Back then, I walked all the monuments but left out the museums, so still another reason to go back. Next time I see Courtney, will hopefully be in the DRC.

Day 174 June 26th - I'm woken early as one of Courtney's friends is moving out. I have a strange rash on my chest and swelling of my wrists. I think I'm having some allergic reactions or my body is not coping without being bitten by mosquito's.
We pop by a local bagel place and have some breakfast before I'm saying goodbye to Courtney and walking about twenty minutes to find my super quick greyhound bus to New York City.
I'm first on the bus and quickly settle in for a four hour nap.
