The crazy aspect of arriving into Oklahoma city was that I was going to need to convince the host to get up at 5am, the next day, to drop me off for a 6am bus!! Already via email he was swaying towards finding me a number for a taxi.
I arrive into Oklahoma city bus station and find out it's open 24 hours, I seriously consider, just letting the host leave me here, I'll find a sports bar, watch the red sox, then camp out in the bus station. It wouldn't be my first time sleeping in a bus station.
Forty-five minutes go by, frustratingly, my phone isn't now receiving texts and it turns out AJ is sat outside across the road, playing angry birds to keep himself amused.
We drive to his house, on the way we pass much of what is Oklahoma city. There isn't really much to say about the place, sadly it's famous for the tragic 1995 bombing of the Alfred P Murrah Federal Building by domestic terrorists.
On the way, AJ tells me he has just recently got a divorce. He didn't go into the details much but has been visiting a new state once a month for the last few months and will continue to do the same for the rest of the year. It's a great idea to try move on from something pretty sad and it will keep him occupied between trips sorting out a venue, who is going etc etc.
We drop my stuff off at his place, he's still not sure about how I will get my bus tomorrow but we'll sort it out later he says. He had a friend move in to help out with the mortgage and also has kept the two Huskie dogs from the marriage. Also, to continue getting over his marriage, he bought a new pool table. Orange! How apt!
We head out for dinner and we drive to Old Chicago. There is a theme night on and within a few minutes, people are playing beer or no beer. Similar to deal or no deal, each box has a number of beers in, ie from 1 to 200 and the bartender (banker) will try to bid for them. The girl ends up winning 100 beers! Not bad!
We start with pepperoni rolls, which were absolutely delicious and AJ had a voucher for a free birthday pizza, which was very tasty too! Can't beat free food.
I suggest to him about dropping me off at the bus station after the meal, to save him getting up early. But slowly and surely, I think he came round to the idea of driving me early in the morning.
We head back to his place, play a few games of pool and the guy had a couple of lady friends call, so at 9pm he calls it a night, not a problem, I was dead tired and ready for a good sleep. Best of all, he had a third room that had a bed, so no couch in Oklahoma city!
Miles walked 0.35
Day 134 May 17 - AJ gets up just on time to give me a lift in. The guy takes a large can of 'Monster' (energy drink, pretty disgusting) with him and drinks that in the car. He drops me off in time and sets off for work.
I now have a 15 hour venture across the middle of the USA, my next stop, Denver, CO.
