Day 118 May 1 continued - I'm lucky that I slept most of the way to Guate city. I would wake up at a stop, remove the sweat from my face and arms and then carry on hugging my bag for some more sleeps. We entered Guate City at 5am, and luckily the hostel I want to stay at is only 4 blocks away, this doesn't stop taxi drivers desperately trying for some business. I would NOT recommend anyone to walk through the streets of Guatemala city at night by themselves. One couple walked right in my face and stuck up a finger to ask for some dollars, I continued on, accidentally knocking them with my big pack. It felt like one dude was following me, but I walk pretty quickly and within a few minutes was pressing the buzzer for the guesthouse I stayed in last time I was in Guate. I get the same room again, I strip off and go to sleep, safe at last!

Day 119 May 2 - I wake mid morning and catch an episode of Lost and Criminal Minds. Today, will be a very relaxing day, I'm behind on my blog, need to relax, soak my cut toe, shower, do laundry etc etc. So to not bore you with the intricate details of my day, I found a laundrette, I ate, I slept, I showered in a hot shower and relaxed like a lazy man!

Day 120 May 3 - Today, I need to continue my blog, find a haircut, explore some of the city, and relax some more. I had a cracking sleep, although I slept with the TV on loud so the nightguy had to wake me up to turn the sound down.

I watched the Barca v Madrid game, ahem, well the first half, I watched the second half through closed eye lids.

I found a haircut, I used google translation to find the translation of short back and side, pushed up at the front. Instead, she shows me a book of different hair cuts, none look like me. In the end, she used clippers over all my hair except for the front, it looks OK, but not the best but it was super cheap. I did prefer my haircut in Suriname, but I am biased as we discussed football that time. I want to look presentable for US immigration as well as looking neat and tidy for these amazing hosts that are putting me up for the next 28 days or so.

I spend some of the afternoon wandering around the city and enjoying some of the sights.

In the evening after sorting out some last minute things for the USA, I enter a very noisy cafe/bar place. Some guys have a table full of empty bottles, it was one of those 'place goes quiet' when ginger gringo walks in. But I don't really care, I order a beer to celebrate my friend Cheryls 30th birthday and order chicken and chips with curry sauce. It came out how it was described!

Then to bed, again someone knocks on my door to ask me to turn down my TV, the TV was at the opposite end of a long room to the bed so reason why the volume was up high. I sat on the edge of the bed to watch the remainder of a show then an early night for the gringo, tomorrow I head for the USA.

I am very excited about my trip across the USA, I am very fond of the country and solely because of the amazing friends I have made while living and visiting there. I have no idea how often I will be able to update the blog when I'm out there, but I will try my best. There might be text and no pictures, or the other way around, but I want to spend time with my hosts than hogging their home PC.

I am also very fond of Guatemala. Anyone visiting Central America should include Nicaragua, Belize and Guatemala. The country has so much to offer, the people are extremely helpful and generous and the country has such great history also. I can't believe this is the end of my Latin America adventure. I hope I have educated everyone of their geography and locations of the countries I have been to. I hope I have also shown how easy it is to travel, the hardest part of course is deciding to go. If a ginger gringo with very little Spanish can make his way around South and Central America, then anyone can!!

I won't go into highlights yet as my trip overall has yet to be completed, but I hope I have opened your eyes to a different side to South and Central America that you might not have seen before. The media seem to focus on the negative aspects of certain places, for example in Rio you typically only see the fighting in the shanty towns, but you fail to see the non criminal residents trying to make a living, trying to feed their family and live a happy life. One of the most interesting aspects of my travels so far is that there is a sense of great happiness in South and Central America compared to the Western world. Maybe we make our lives too complicated, or struggle with power, greed and wanting to better our lives. I'll always remember that small family I stayed with in La Pita, Nicaragua. They had very little in terms of assets but you couldn't wipe the huge grin off the mothers face and especially little Lester's face. They understand what's important, maybe in the Western world we forget sometimes. John F. Kennedy once said 'Our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal.'.

This world is a beautiful place, I can't wait to see more. See you in the USA!
