Start of my trip. 30th December 2010. Flying to New York city via Montreal (cheapest option). A long day in the air comes to an end when I rise up from the subway on 168th street to see all the snow I was lucky to miss. In some areas it is waist deep, crazy!! Meet up with Di and Josh and enjoy a good catch up.

New Years Eve was an errand day, sadly. Printing, picking up a debit card, going to my Iranian hairdresser (and they recognised me), picking up new headphones from J&R and a stupid trip to JFK to see the LAN airline. Had a nightmare over purchasing a ticket for a future flight, but it's all sorted now.
That night, I went to Brooklyn with Di and Josh and met Jessica and Ben, we think we´ve met before, but the time we were discussing, I was not in a good way. Dinner at My Moon was excellent, mainly for the company and great conversation, Josh unfortunately had a dessert that no-one dare touch. The actual restaurant used to be a leather factory.

We were sat in the boiler room which used to power the sewing machines. Pretty cool. The drinks were already mixing and we moved onto another bar. Josh met someone he knew who had a spare table and we saw in the New Year in there with some funky 50s 60s music vibe going on after. Of course, there was dancing, more drinking and a long long long subway ride home.

New Years Day was not so great. Well the day was fine, but we all were not feeling up to scratch. In the evening we went to an apartment in Cabrini Boulevard to meet Di and Josh's friends, there were tasty nachos, beer and the College football Rose Bowl. Oh, and a couple of 2 year olds on some awesome train set that was large enough for them to drive!! Nice!

Sunday, I stayed in and waited for some shopping to be delivered for Di and Josh, plus I had so many things to catch up on and more research to complete for my trip....and there were two NFL games on, so when a volunteer was needed to stay behind, it was always going to be me.

Monday, 3rd January was a day of catching up with friends. Saw Christina in Brooklyn for coffee and a cake and got to see her great apartment that she bought, got ruined in a fire and has since been rebuilt. Sweet. It was really cool to catch up with Christina. I caught the Q train on the way back to Manhattan and witnessed a beautiful sunset whilst crossing the Manhattan Bridge. I could see the Statue of Liberty in the distance, through the stretched cables of the Brooklyn bridge. She was set against a beautiful background of yellows, reds, oranges. It was one of the few times I just stood there and enjoyed the moment, rather than trying to find my camera in my back pack and miss the experience. I love this city, it´s moments like that that make me miss it so much. In the evening, I meet up with Cheryl on the upper east side and enjoy a kebab. Not the British kind, there was a roof, a place to sit, doors, menus etc etc. It was at this point I started feeling a little strange. Was it the food? Was I getting nervous? Had my trip suddenly dawned on me? It probably was the food, but it was great to see Cheryl just a shame I couldn´t hang out longer. I get back to DI and Josh´s, packed my things, said farewell to the both of them, and of course Penny jumped all over me (their little dog) and it was lights out (apart from checking the cricket score every 25 seconds) for a 4am start.

Next stop Quito, Ecuador.
