Yesterday we traveled from Cedar Point, Ohio to Niagara Falls, New York State. It was a fairly long dull drive along the same interstate road the majority of thaw way. Michelle had her first go at driving on the highway in this car, its quite easy because it has cruise control so all you have to do the majority of the time is steer. After setting off at around 11am we finally arrived in Niagara Falls at around 3pm. I was really surprised because I expected the falls to be in the middle of no where in this national park. However the national park is tiny and surrounded by a city, on the Canadian side of the falls there where even HUGE sky scrapers so that was not really what I expected. We parked up and wandered over to the top of the Canadian or Horseshoe Falls and the mist being thrown up by the falls was just crazy, so crazy that we could see it from miles off as we approached along the highway. I imitdaely wrapped my camera in a plastic bag with just a small hole for the lens, I think I'm paranoid about getting my camera even slightly dam now
! And started snapping away. Then we wandered across to the top of the american falls before buying our tickets for the 'Maid of the Mist' the famous boat ride that takes you around the bottom of both falls. Luckily we got given very attractive blue plastic ponchos as I think we all under esmitated just how wet we would get on the boat ride, so wet that they have to give these things away for free not make you pay for them like just about every other place in the world. So we set off on the boat ride, I put Ben's camera in my trusty water proof case (as my point and click camera seems to be a bit broken, I can view the pictures I have taken but the lens wont extend to let me take anymore, it may just be the battery that needs charging though) we took a lot of pictures!….. Mainly because we couldn't actually see what we where taking pictures of most of the time but I think w got some pretty good / amusing ones. The amazing thing about this boat ride was not only the falls but the way it keeps going, they just put the boat on full pelt towards the Horseshoe falls and keep going until the force of the water naturally turns the boat around and sends it back towards the American falls and the dock where it came from. After that there was a short walk up to near the american falls we all trekked up, it wasn't far but I say trekked because going against the force of the water and the wind was hard work. I can only describe this walk as like being under a shower that was insanely forceful, and at our nearest point I would say we still where a good 25 meters away from the american falls. Then it was up to the viewing platform to say goodbye to Niagara. Then we headed to our campsite for the night, pitched the tent ate a feast of Chilli and rice before heading to into the tent. Wre had great fun squishing mosquitos and following them with our torches in a search light style before we played cards before going to sleep. This morning we have packed up and I am sitting in the back of the car on the interstate 90 again (getting very board of this road we have been on it pretty much all the way from Chicago) heading to the White Mountains in New Hampshire, its along drive so we wont be getting there until mid to later afternoon but we do have the full day there tomorrow. When we next come across a Maccy D's that we can stop off at I will upload this blog and hopefully some pictures too!
All for now,
