Hello Kids,

How is everyone, I am fine and dandy, just been making my way through Central America, with the first country on the list being Guatemala. Which is such a wonderful country, it was really refreshing going there, after being in Mexico and Cuba, as it really reminded me of Peru, with its authentic indigenous culture still very much apart of their life today. We started up North at Flores, which is this great little Island in the middle of a lake. Phee and I meet up with Matt here, so some good times were had!! The main reason for our visit to Flores was as it is very close to the Tikal Mayan Ruins. This was awesome, the three of us stayed at the ruins over night, we slept out in our hammocks, falling asleep to the jungle and those very loud howler monkeys. During the night however I had to get up for a quick bathroom stop, to find of was centimeters away from stepping on a very large scorpion, which I was told probably would have killed me. (not to give you a heart attack mum). Any who the Ruins were wicked, we got in very early before all of the tourists, which was good. It was very different to Macchu Pichu, it was not really restored at all, so it made us feel like we were viewing it the way it was found. We have to walk through the Jungle to find each site (it kind of felt like a treasure hunt). When you climbed each pyramid you could see the others protruding over the top of the jungle, which was pretty spectacular.

From here we went down to Antigua, which is this real little cool student town, actually really reminded us of Cuzco, which brought back some wonderful memories. We stayed here for a few days relaxing, making the most of the great social life there. From here we went to San Pedro, which is in the lakes district, surrounded by volcanoes. It was a really cool town, a place where many travellers dont actually end up leaving (a lot of trippers). They had a full moon party here, not quite the same as the one in Thailand, however it was still good fun. There was plenty of cool markets here to which filled in the days.

Unfortunately we only had enough time to stay for a week in Guatemala, however it was amazing and place which is definetly on my list for returning too.
