Apart from being the oldest settlement in Georgia, Savannah is home to some of the most beautiful historical homes (check out the photos with this entry). They all seem like something out of Gone With The Wind and I am sure that some of them actually are. The guy who designed the place built all the original blocks of land so that each family's plot overlooked a public square. He must have been aiming for something gorgeous and I think he managed to achieve it.

In 1989 the first steamship to sail across the Atlantic sailed from Savannah - it was aptly named The Savannah!

As a child I could not begin to fathom the important part that Savannah had played in many civil and world wars - mainly due to having the busiest docks around. As a child I just got incredibly bored from looking at a bunch of old houses.
