There's a bit of a debate between my parents about whether or not we actually went to Miami - one says 'without a doubt' and the other 'not too sure'. When I asked them they ended up arguing about if they did or not. Apart from being amused at their indecision, I couldn't find anything about Miami in the photo albums or on maps and other things that has that sort of info written down. However, I put it in here because the end conclusion was that we actually did go to Miami.

Who knows?!

Apparantly Miami's airport services the greatest number of different airlines of all the airports in the world. It has the best Art Deco architecture in all of the US and it played a small part in the Seminole Wars as well. In 1959 a whole bunch of Cuban refugees fled to Miami during the Communist Revolution, thus forming a new ethnic community. Miami has a richly diverse culture on account of the amount of ethnic communities that continue to live their traditional ways of life and Spanish is considered to be the unofficial second language of the city.

Like a lot of well-planned cities in the world, Miami is built in a pretty dumb spot where it is vulnerable to loads of hurricanes and has been destroyed a few times already by these natural occurances. Like all these well-thought-out cities, Miami has just been rebuilt whenever a hurricane has taken a little bit of it away. Rebuilt so that there is something there to take away when the next hurricane comes along!
