So, there's this old broadway musical called "Damn Yankees!" - seemed appropriate for this evenings activity. Headed Uptown to take in "America's favourite pastime" (their quote) - baseball!

The New York Yankees were hosting the LA Angels - but who cares, I was here for the spectacle! Disclosure - I do follow baseball and my allegiances sit with the Boston Red Sox. They are fierce rivals of the Yankees (like Collingwood v Carlton), so I felt like I was in enemy territory.

What a stadium! It felt modern day coliseum like with its grand architecture - it's not that old though. The concourse was lined with enormous tributes to their past greats whose numbers are permanently retired in their honour. Their greatest and most well known, no. 3, Babe Ruth, referred to as the 'Bambino' (remember that for a future post), is everywhere.

After some 'star spangled banner' action the game commenced. I won't bore anyone with the details. The Yankees won 2-1 and the beery masses were happy. Interestingly their star player Alex Rodriguez or 'A-Rod' is pending a 250 game suspension for steroid use, so each time he was involved in the action, there was an odd mix of boos and cheers from the home crowd.

The journey back on the subway was packed and felt like catching the Belgrave line home after seeing a day/nighter at the MCG!

Aside: Bloomigdales is across the street from the courtesy bus stop back to the Z Hotel.
