Feet of Flames
Entry 3 of 52 | show all | print this entry |
Second and third days! Yesterday we got up early and went for a run, can't see it lasting but always good to kid yourself for a bit isn't it! Had breakfast at the hostel, were a bit disappointed to see the the fabled "toast" was in fact raw bread with plastic cheese, mmmmmmmm, they even gave us jam when the one slice of bread had ham on?? Must be a Russian thing. Went to Palace square first off and then walked round the city, see the photos for a little tour round the city. We got incredibly lost down the backstreets of St Petersburg and have decided aren't the shoe of choice for walking long distances. Have decided the food is mmmmmmmmm, had minging chicken thing last night, Beth had loads of skin and a hip-bone in hers (it was clucking awful!). We went to the supermarket as well, finally found some fruit cos Russian people don't seem to eat anything other than meat or cheese. On a sad note we left our double room in nice hostel in the middle of town to go and live in somebody's house which is pretending to be a hostel. It's great, and in such a charming neighbourhood, we'd send you pictures but don't want to get the camera out for so long (and you's all get jealous). On the plus side there are 24 hour pancake houses nearby for vodka related munchies (it's true you know, 4 pound for a bottle, fantastic). Think we might end our days here if Beth doesn't stop pointing at fashion disasters and gasping, it's like the land that fashion forgot! Anyhow, we're miles away from Boris' flat so we'll just put the pictures on and go (plus it smells a bit like wee round here).
xxxxxxxx

I HEART vodka and pancakes! (reply) Jul 21, 2006 04:17 EST by homebaked
I am so jealous- i want to go to Russia. Now. I am sure I would be as outraged at the fashion faux pas as you beth- I remember in Montenegro it was a bit of a shocker- at least you're not on the beach so don't have to see thigh leg thongs non-stop...hope you're not getting too pissed- ahem. and eating more pancakes and staying off the chicken grissle. Have you met any revolutionaries or spies? ;> ... show all

sounds lovely... (reply) Jul 21, 2006 03:46 EST by leafy
raw bread - we should send Jordan!! Sounds like the 'gaining weight' worries are a non starter! Is it as lovely as everyone says? Looking forward to the pictures - apparently Russian technology doesn't like pound signs or uploading English pictures.... Miss you heaps, loads of love xxxx

Hi there you young people with blisters - are they more painful than the bites Beth? Sorry you've ended up in a seedy part of town but not long until you move on. Couldn't find the photos that you'd posted but then you know me and technology! I really miss you Bethy and so does the washing machine. Lol X
