We drove into Macon, GA. It was an easy 180 mile drive, no problems on the road. It was probably the easiest freeway to drive (Hwy 16). It was not crowded at all and it was pretty much flat the entire way. We got to the Hampton inn and check in. Since it was only Rob and myself driving the box trucks, we go into town a little early. We put our bags in our rooms and decided to eat at a place called Wagers (named after gambling). We walked up the street in 97 degree weather. It was a short walk, so it was pretty easy. We walked into this little dive of a place and there was the waitress/bartender and and old man sitting in the corner playing Keno. What a GREAT atmosphere. We ordered some food and when it came out the waitress/bartender spilled Rob's food all over the floor and had to make the Chicken basket all over again. The food was decent, so we decided to try the Key Lime Pie. It was just okay. Rob's was free because of the Chicken Basket incident (Good name for a band, kind of like Sting Cheese Incident). We walked back to the hotel and crashed for a while. About 4:00 I got a called from Richie (one of the guy's on the tour). He said that we would be going to a soul food place around 6 if I wanted to go. Six o'clock rolled around and we took two trucks to drive to this place since we had 7 of us going there. This place was recommended by the front desk clerk at the hotel. We got to the place and saw it was named The Grey Goose, Players Club, home of the famous Gooseburger. A gooseburger, never heard of it, but it sounded interesting. As we walked up to the place we saw a dog (yellow lab) sitting outside with a bowl of water (made out of a to go box) to keep cool in this heat. We walked inside and saw that the place was not that busy. They had a saltwater and freshwater tank in the middle of the restaurant to separate the bar and tables. After looking at the menu and seeing that the Gooseburger was just a regular 1/2 pound burger, I decided to order the fried pork chops, mac and cheese, corn nuggets, and butter beans. This sounds like really good soul food, but it ended up just being okay. For dessert I finished the meal off with a fried peanut butter and jelly. This sounded very interesting and when it came out it was covered in powdered sugar. It was not that bad of a dessert. Other people ended getting pecan pie and a lava cake (just a chocolate souffle cake). It was a nice dinner. We headed back to the hotel and called it a night. I did not have to get on the road until 11am tomorrow. So I finally get a long night's sleep in a VERY comfy bed.
