This was the day that I learned from all of the veterans that have been doing these tours for years. I am the greenhorn and this is day 1. I get up, put on my new shorts, and walk outside. To my surprise everyone was already standing outside, ready to go. We were picking up this tour from the previous group who was running it for the past couple of weeks. In Charlotte (Concord) they worked the NASCAR event at Lowe's Motor Speedway. This event included a dirt track with hills and high banks. They switched between this and the Bass Pro Shop where we were normally having our event. After setting up for the day we had out "T3." Jason went through what he expected out of the group during this 5 week tour. He mentioned things such as working as a group and asking questions over the radio (which have the ear piece and microphone that makes us look like we are in the secret service, except we don't speak into our wrist), the ZERO tolerance for driving with ANY alcohol in our system, paying parking and traffic violations right away, and to always be cautions. The day started out pretty slow. We had a few drivers here and there, but we had enough time standing around where I was able to get to know a little bit about the people I would be working with. After a couple of hours of work the wind started to pick up and the clouds set in. The day started out at 78 degrees and by the time the rain had passed, it was 62 degrees. I was in my shorts and a Columbia Fishing shirt that was too big for me. Out shirts and jackets were being sent in the mail, but would not arrive until Friday, 2 days away. It was a VERY chilly day. We would sit in the trucks a lot to keep warm. All and all it was a good 1st day. Everyone is saying that this is the tour to work because of how easy it is to do. After the day was over we moved everything into our box trucks and under our tent, and then headed out for the day. Some people headed to eat Cajun food, I decided to eat some of the food that I had picked up at Walmart. I sat down to eat my microwaved pizza, pizza rolls, and hot chamomile tea. It looks like this tour will be a good time in my life. Life on the road is what you make of it. Being in a hotel room all of the time will get old really quick. During this trip I am going to go out and experience as much as I can even when I am working. The people, places, and culture sure add that little spice to life. On a side not, I feel like Doogie Howser right now typing on a computer putting down my days thoughts. Just thought I would share that one with you..
