Country # 3, at last!
Entry 13 of 26 | show all | print this entry |
Yes, it´s true, I finally got my butt out of Colombia. Now i am in Quito, the capitol of Ecuador. The city is ok, kind of your average South American big city. There is an old town, which has cool architecture, churches, etc...I have to admit that I am getting a little bored with cool architecture and beautiful churches, but it is still nice to wander around for a few hours, especially after long, cramped bus rides. (There are very few times in life that I wish I were shorter, and buses and planes certainly qualify). I am in the new town, which is more exciting, it is where all the bars are, and the restaurants, and clubs...all within about 5 blocks of the hostel. And the hostel is evil, as they have these rum and coke nights three times a week. Dangerous. Friday was madness, rum and coke night, plus the tenth anniversary of the hostel, plus, well, a Friday in a big city. I think i got home at 6 am, and didn´t actually sleep until about 8. MAdness. And there are a lot more americans in Ecuador. A lot more tourists on the whole, but definitely more Americans. Which is good and bad. It is nice to commiserate about Bush, but it was nice, in Colombia, to spend time with people from other nations. Anyway, I officially bought my plane ticket for the Galapagos Islands. I am leaving tomorrow morning, going out with two english guys and a french guy. i booked my ticket for two weeks, I am so excited!! I also bought ´´Origin of the Species´´, as Darwin came up with his evolutionary theory partially based on his experiences in the Galapagos. The book is fascinating. So I will be on a boat for probably 8 days, then I might just chill and take day trips to additional islands for another week or so. So, I might be MIA for a while. Well, at least for the next ten days. So, that is about all for now. More later, -A
