Out of the heat at last

Same day as the last entry, i know, i know... by the way, this keyboard really sticks, and i might not correct all the typos, so go easy on me. So, i left Cali for Popayan, a few hours south. The boys were supposed to come, but one of their friends got drugged and robbed on a bus to Clai to meet us. Really scary. There is a drug made from some plant in Colombia that basically has no taste or odor and knocks you out in about five minutes. So this guy had a cookie from a package that a guy offered him on the bus, and woke up later with an IV in his arm and everything that had been on his person ($, cards, passport...) gone. He had been talking to the guy for a while apparently, and only took the cookie because he didn´t want to be rude. So girls knwo about this drug, becuase it is most commonly used as a date rape drug (so female travellers know not to take a drink or a cigarette or food from anyone) but guys don´t generally hear about these things. Anyway, really scary. So the boys went up to Bogota for the embassy and all.
Anyway, on to happier stuff, Popayan. Really beautiful city. The whole old town is white every building, and everybuilding has balconies built from dark wood. It just looks really cool. Only stayed there for one night, then headed down to the border town of Ipiales. Nothing to speak of. Stayed at a nice, clean, family run hotel, which was good and cheap, until I remembered that family run means children screaming and running around like banshees at 7 am. Then onto Ecuador, and Quito, where I am at present. More later, -A
