Left at 8 am - arrived at 9pm (13 hours)
Here we are: we finally enter Hunan province. The grey landscapes of Hubei were a little it depressing!
A long day driving today! Both Samvit and Karine took turns to try and make it to Zhang Jia Jie but finally we had to stop in a town about 150km from our destination. We had to go back through JingZhou and while exiting the city somehow ended up on the highway by mistake.
We got pulled over by the police but lucky they were nice and didn't fine us. Instead they asked us to go backward (on the highway) to take the previous exit! Welcome to China!
While driving Karine got bitten on her neck by a bee... It was very painful and Samvit had to take over!
We were then sent on the small country roads, which was terrible. Holes everywhere! It was raining and we were in the mud! That night we got stocked behind a caravan of trucks. There was an ambulance that was also stocked in the mud and a crowd of people trying to push the vehicle out under the rain. We were able to pass the trucks by driving half off the road and finally got to the part where the ambulance was stocked. Along the way we lost on of the two horns while brushing along a fallen tree.
Now we had no horn. We took some speed, crossed the sticky mud hole. We were very happy and proud with our little R75. She had made in through with no trouble where others got stocked.
For hours we continued along this muddy bumpy path until finally we could no more and stopped in a small town, found a decent hotel and exhausted fell asleep!
Jour 10 : Dimanche 14 octobre 2007

Départ 8 am - arrivée at 9pm (13 heures)
Ca y est: Nous sommes finalement dans la province du Hunan. Les paysages ternes et grisâtres du Hubei, nous devons bien l'avouer étaient un peu déprimants !
Une longue journée de route aujourd'hui ! Samvit et Karine, tour à tour ont conduit essayant d'atteindre la prochaine destination : Zhang Jia Jie, mais cela n'a pas suffit, nous avons du nous arrêter dans une petite ville en chemin à environ 150 km de notre destination.
On a du repasser par Jingzhou, et en sortant de la ville, nous nous sommes retrouvées, après avoir traversé un immense pont sans fin sur l'autoroute par erreur ! Nous nous sommes alors bien évidemment faits arrêter par la police ! Nous avons été chanceux, car même s'il fallait s'y attendre, ils ne nous ont pas donné d'amende ! Ils nous ont seulement demander de faire demi-tour (sur l'autoroute) afin de prendre la sortie précédente ! Ayooo, Vive la Chine ! C'était un peu effrayant de prendre l'autoroute en sens inverse, mais bon...au moins nous n'étions pus en infraction... ah ah !
Pendant qu'elle conduisait, karine s'est faite piqué à la nuque par une abeille. C'était vraiment très douloureux et Samvit a du prendre le relais.
Nous nous sommes donc retrouvés sur une petite route une fois de plus, mais alors là c'était vraiment terrible ! Il pleuvait, il y avait de la boue partout, il faisait froid ! Cette nuit là, nous nous sommes trouvés bloqués derrière une caravane de camions. Plus loin devant il y avait une ambulance qui était embourbée dans la boue avec une foule de gens essayant de pousser le véhicule sous la pluie ! Nous avons pu passer les camions, en conduisant en dehors de la route (non sans peur) et finalement nous sommes arrivée au niveau de l'ambulance ! En chemin nous avons perdu un de nos deux klaxons (décidemment ces klaxons !) qui a été arraché lorsque nous sommes passés trop près des arbres et buissons.... Maintenant, nous conduisions sans klaxon ! On a pris de la vitesse, traversé un gros trou, reçu de la boue qui giclait partout, serré les fesses, et nous avons passé l'ambulance !
Nous sommes vraiment très fière de notre petite R75. La ou d'autres sont restés bloqués, elle est passée !
On a continué encore pendant quelques heures sur ce chemin chaotique plein de boue jusqu'à n'en plus pouvoir et nous nous sommes finalement arrêtés dans une petite ville, trouvé un hôtel décent et nous avons sombrés sans attendre dans les bras de Morphée !

I just bought a motorbike today...... will join you for a symbolic kilometer or two in Bangkok!

What an amazing trip so far. I guess that the difficulties you are constantly faced with are quite a bit larger than what you probably anticipated. But now that you've taken the plunge you've got to swim (literally thru some of the muddy patches )-:
Just take it easy and enjoy. Don't get into the competitive mode where you want to do better than some other travleer before you.
