Day 4: 19th April 2009, Sunday Time:

The day started off pleasantly with a romantic streak in the air- both of us happy in the bliss of celebrating our 1st Wedding Anniversary! We had planned a Couples Massage at the Ritz-Carlton (no less!) at 10 am and so started traveling towards the Eastern coast of the island. Reaching there we began to see the salmon pink colored structures with great architectural details and all the flamboyance, a 5-star hotel would have. Entering the Spa felt like almost attaining Nirvana itself! - the heavenly scents of lavender and chamomile inducing a state of peace and calm into you.. How the 60 minutes passed by after that, I can't exactly recollect as I was in a state of heavenly bliss!! After the massage, we were directed towards the Relaxation Room, and offered herbal tea, juices and fresh and dried fruits n nuts...A beautiful mesmerizing experience with A PRICE TAG though! [Tip: 18% gratuities are added directly to the check! But i thought they deserved it..and we did too... ;)] Refreshed and with a new energy, we stepped out to take in the beautiful landscaping of the hotel grounds- rated "the best" landscaping on the Island!
The perfect selection of tropical flowering plants, palm fronds lazily swaying in the wind, the infinity pool overlooking a white sands beach
- all added to the refreshing experience of the surroundings...
Later we started realizing that we needed to eat something and referring to our Frommers book tried to locate some good restaurant (open for Lunch on Sunday!) somewhere nearby. After quite a few phone calls we decided on "Duffy's Love Shack"
- a restaurant described by Frommers as "a fun and happening place where you can mingle with the locals." My first impression of it was - it was SO SMALL! But then as we entered the eclectic decorations with Caribbean touch, music, good aroma of food and a great bar started appealing to us .. It turned out to be a great place...awesome cocktails, delicious food in huge quantities, superb atmosphere. The best part was the assortment of around 20 cocktails available in their own signature glasses, which were yours to keep after the drinks!!
After the meal we decided to take a driving tour of the Island, something we had decided to do since long and hadn't found the opportunity for it! We started from the Resort and drove towards the East side. Our first stop was at Brewers Bay beach, a white sands beach with clear waters...
Next, we drove all the way, up the hilly roads affording panoramic views of the sea and surrounding islands. No pictures can ever capture the heavenly experience that was...At one of the overlooks we even spotted the runway of the airport and patiently waited till we saw an AA flight descending over it...
Then we kept on driving further along the scenic route, which almost loops the entire island, enjoying the breeze and taking in the fantastic views. Soon we reached a great scenic overlook, which had great views of the St. Thomas Harbor..
While driving to this location, I spotted a sign for the Mafolie Hotel and Restaurant
which affords the scenic view of the Harbor, Charlotte Amalie, and the surrounding islands. The aroma wafting from the restaurant area indicated that the food would be really good out there! Next, we drove towards Drake's seat, the vantage point where Sir Francis Drake was supposed to have looked for enemy ships of the Spanish fleet. This lookout includes a panoramic view of the Virgin Islands where the Atlantic Ocean joins the Caribbean Sea. It also affords an aerial view of Magen's Bay beach, rated as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches around the world by National Geographic Channel.
Finishing the tour at Magens Bay at sunset, we headed back to our resort for a quick break before getting to Herve's French Restaurant and Wine Bar for our Anniversary dinner! It was a perfect venue for our celebration- a great table facing the harbor and town
French ambience and music, and delicious food! We started off with a Scottish smoked salmon and continued with grilled Lobster and Sea bass served with Mango dill beurre blanc
as our entrees. For dessert we had one of the dishes for which the restaurant is well-known for- creme' caramel !
