Day 6:

We started off our day in Deer Lodge, MO at 8:30am. Temperature was 49 degrees at start of day with clear skies - beautifull !!!  Sure am glad I decided to pack a few long sleeve shirts and a sweater.

A3 C14 odometer reading is 4822 miles
Rusty 1200RT odometer reading is 26339 miles

We decided this morning to just take I-90 all the way to Blaine, rather than take secondary roads through the northern mountains. We were not happy about this choice at the time because the mountain roads would have been beautiful, but we elected to do to make up time we had lost. We are almost a full day behind at this point over what we had estimated.

We crossed into Idaho at around 11:30am PST. The I-90 stretch between Montana and Idaho was fantastic with great views of the mountains. Time really flies by when you are taking lots of turns and racing up-hill and down-hill; much better than the looooonnnggggg boring rides with nothing but farmlands as far as the eye can see. We crossed into Washington state next and pulled over in Spokane for lunch. After lunch we had again long boring stretches of nothing, but this time we saw dozens of "Dust Devils" on the farm lands - that was very interesting to witness. Dust Devils are small whirlwinds (mini tornadoes). While having lunch in Spokane we decided it was time to have an oil change performed on our bikes, so I called upon my work colleague "Rod" in Seattle and he hooked us up with two dealerships in Seattle. THANK YOU ROD !!!!

Throughout the day we had fantastic weather until we reached Seattle. It became overcast and non-stop drizzle - ugly weather, but typical for Seattle. We stopped at Lake City Kawasaki ( 6pm PST where I had my oil changed. Rusty's BMW dealer ( could not schedule him in till tomorrow morning so after my bike was serviced we continued north to Blaine where we arrived at 9:15pm PST ( WE DID IT - checkpoint #2. My odometer reading was 5508 miles and Rusty's was 27008 miles. According to Rusty's GPS we averaged 57.5 mph from Key West to Blaine and while his bike averaged 48.3 mpg mine averaged a bit less at around 39 mpg (still not bad). Now 2 more checkpoints to go. After Blaine we rode back south to Seattle to be close to Rusty's BMW dealership so we ended up in Everett, WA (,_Washington) at a Days Inn hotel at midnight.

I just want to emphasize, and remind myself, that the weather was MISERABLE from Seattle to Blaine and back to Seattle. Miserable !!!!  Raining the whole way and very cold; 50 degrees plus windchill. Bbrrrrrrrr.

I would like to thank all of you who have called or text us these last few days to say hi and see how we are doing. We appreciate you thinking of us and keeping us company in spirit. You know who you are - thank you!

We rode a total of 773 miles today - our longest ride day yet.

Rusty just called and informed me they changed his oil, but are recommending he change his tire already as the thread is showing through. Yikes - not good. So he is now having his tire changed and it is time for me to hit the road. I promise to update my entries in greater detail when time permits again. Time to hit the road again !!
