A colleague of mine, Steven Wind, approached me one day and said "Dude, when are we going to go white water rafting in Costa Rica?"..... and that is how this trip evolved. After several weeks of switching potential dates we finally settled on flying down to San Jose on the evening of October 10th, arriving there around 9:30pm. Initially we had the following persons that were going to take this trip: Me, Steven, Ryan (Steven's friend), Jeremy (my buddy), Chuck (my buddy), Rusty (my brother), and Douglas (my cousin), but in the end Jeremy and Douglas had to cancel due to other commitments that popped up. Their loss !!!!  :o)

American Airlines (http://www.aa.com/) had some really good deals on roundtrip tickets at $220. We became best friends with the bar tender at our hotel and ended up having about four beers to many that night.

At 6:30am Rios Tropicales (http://www.riostropicales.com/) picked us up, and it was a three hour drive to their base of operations where we had a nice local breakfast and were able to change into our rafting gear. From there we were off to the river Reventazon (http://www.e-raft.com/Regions/CostaRica/RioReventazon.asp) (or) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reventaz%C3%B3n_River), which was another 15 minutes away. As usual Rios Tropicales offers an experienced crew whose number one priority was our safety. As much as we tried to bribe our guide to forget about safety and hit every rapid possible - that ended up not happening, and in reality was a real dissapointment.

Now don't misunderstand, we all had a great time (including the two Cubans tourists who were with us on the boat), but we have all been on much better rafting trips. This trip was short - just under three hours - and we missed a number of turbulent areas that we wanted to go through. Oh well, I guess this just means that we will have to go back again sometime soon  :o)

After the rafting trip we were provided with a nice lunch and then we were shuttled back to our hotel. We made it back to our hotel around 5pm, took a nap, and then went for dinner and paid a visit to our favorite bar tender who took care of us again  :o)  On Sunday we were out of the hotel by 8:30am and on our way to the airport to catch our flight home. In total this was literally a 36 hour vacation. Crazy? Maybe. But deffinitely fun.

Any takers for our next trip? Let me know if you are and I will let you know when that happens.

Thanks for your comment.
Yeah - Costa Rica is the best. Love it there. Planning another 2 days trip in a month to go white water rafting again with some friends. This time we will probably hit the Pacuare river.
