When I arrived in Florence on the 4th June the Italian weather was not very nice but I did a quick wander (about 2hrs) around the city and snapped a few shots on my phone while I waited for my room to be ready. After lunch I headed back to the hostel to put my gear in my room and grab some wifi. Later on in the afternoon I met a couple of Aussie guys that were staying in my room and it turned out that there was a bus load from Busabout and a bus load from Contiki staying at my hostel. I ended up heading out with them and the rest of the bus trippers to the Red Garder karaoke bar for a feed and some entertaining attempts at singing (not me). After this we hit another couple of bars on the way back to the hostel where we kicked on til around 3am in the hostel bar. Now there may or may not be a video of me on YouTube dancing to "Call me maybe" by Carly Rae Jespen. I haven't been able to find it, but the girls were adamant they were going to upload it so watch this space.

My second day in Florence was spent at Cinque Terre and is covered by a separate blog.

So 6th June I'm back in Florence and Italy has turned on a beautiful day this time so it's time to attack Florence. I'm not going to run through my minute by minute recap but I managed to cover the following:

Piazza do Santa Maria Novella
Medici Chapels
Montefiascone cathedral (duomo)
Statue of David
Santa Croce
Ponte Vecchio
Beautiful panaramic views from the top of the hill :)

The duomo was amazing!!!! It's the really impressive building in all my photos. And the walk to the top of the dome is well worth the effort. Statue of David was a statue...it's nice. Ponte Vecchio didn't impress me that much, the bridges in Verona were much nicer. The views from the hill looking back over florence are amazing and very easy to get to on the hop on hop off bus.

My last night in Florence was a quiet one with an early train to Rome beckoning the next day.

Florence is an amazing place with breathtaking buildings, an amazing skyline and history that is endless. I found the people really nice also and very helpful. I was that pressed it managed to knock Verona off the top of my Italy list.

Now I dont have the photo up yet but I will eventually but my closing quote today comes from an unknown philosopher written on a column at the top of the duomo dome and it simpy said:

"disregard females, acquire currency"
