What a great variety of things we enjoyed today! We started at the Rotorua Museum of Art & History situated in the world famous 1908 Bath House. it had wonderful exhibits related to the history of the bath house, the 1886 eruption of Mount Tarawera - complete with a simulated quake, carved treasures of the Arawa, the local Maori tribe and the history of the Maori battalion in World War II. At lunch time we boosted our anti-oxidant intake at the Blueberry Winery where we enjoyed blueberry crepes, tea and wine. Alternatively we could have had the gooseberry equivalents. We visited a kiwi egg hatchery where eggs retrieved from the wild are incubated, hatched as chicks, taught to eat and released in order to reverse the extinction of this species. A wonderful nocturnal house afforded us the chance to see three birds - at least we think they are birds though they don't have many bird features. All that activity worked up an appetite for a session at the Polynesian Spa - one of the top ten in the world according to Conde Nast. We had a private mineral thermal spring fed bath and change room and shower overlooking Sulphur Bay on Lake Rotorua and the waterfowl reserve. Dinner at the Fat Dog Cafe brought a busy day to a satisfying end.
