After a wonderful breakfast of smoked trout omelet we set off to hike to Huka Falls along the eastern bank of the Waikato River - New Zealand's longest river - and witnessed our first thermal stream. Later we walked the lake front of Lake Taupo past million dollar homes, black swans and Hot Water Beach where Richard swam and I waded. You could feel the hot water bubbling up under your feet. We enjoyed a wonderful mussel, salmon and prawn dinner at the Huka Falls winery - the local branch of a Hawkes Bay based winery.
