It was a lengthy drive south from Port Douglas to Airlie Beach - some approximately 750 kilometres - thro sugar cane, mango and banana plantations and ranching country. Stayed at a great B&B overlooking Airlie Beach and Abel Point Marina. Left Shute Harbour noon on Tuesday, Feb. 26 on "Windjammer" - an 80 ft. schooner built in 1993 in Brisbane. We have thoroughly enjoyed being on a boat again and in such a beautiful location. The scenery reminds me of the Gulf Islands but the water is very warm and the corals and fish phenomenal. We've enjoyed out of this world food too. There are only 6 of us on board plus 4 crew. Visited world famous Whitehaven Beach - fine white silica sand, like flour. And at night we could see the stars. Orion's Belt was my favourite. We have to wear stinger suits while swimming.
