Sorry kids.. this app for this travel blog has quit on me. I'm using the online version of Travelpod which means I can't upload pictures because my iPad doesn't have Flash! Technology is failing me! I've uploaded a few pictures to Facebook, but I know that doesn't help some of you. Anyway, let me tell you about Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic! This is a beautiful fairy tale town (complete with a castle). We did a tour of the castle this morning which was very interesting. The castle was first constructed in the 1400's and was updated and enlarged several times since then. A few funny facts that we learned today.. in the 15th and 16th centuries the people here believed that if they layed down in bed to sleep at night their soul could fly out of their mouth and they could die, so they slept sleeping up. Also, they believed that if you painted a portrait of a child they could die and stay looking like that forever, so they did portraits of children with old faces which made for some very creepy portraits.

After the castle tour we did a brewery tour. The Eggenberg brewery was first established here in 1560 as a castle brewery. Today they make several kinds of beer through the use of computers, but also have a brew master who makes a yeast beer through traditional methods. The tour was a lot of fun thanks to our guide who was an older retired gent who had a bit of a struggle with English - he was quite entertaining. Erick and some of the others in our group did a tasting (two pints!) and were a little done in before lunch. After lunch most of our group did a rafting trip, but we decided to walk around town and do some shopping. Later we met up with Claire, Tamara, and Varsha for a feast at a local restaurant.

Yesterday when we arrived in town we did and hour bike ride through the forest and back into town. Erick had a pretty epic tumble into the bushes, but he was just fine except for a few scrapes. Brian was in his element - he loves being on a bike! After that we had a tour around the town with a quirky local woman, and then a nice dinner at a restaurant on the river with a view of the castle. We were watching for a sighting of the ghost they called the woman in white who is said to appear at the castle. If she is wearing white gloves it is good luck, black gloves are bad luck, and red gloves warn of fire. Sadly, we did not see her.

Tomorrow morning we are getting on a bus and heading for Prague!
