We have arrived!
No problems with security, and I was even able to carry on some eye drops. The flight was about 9 hours, and we are fairly happy with the entire ordeal, given that neither of us has slept well for some time. We were particularly pleased with the free wine that we got before and during the evening meal, so bonus points for British Air. Subtract points for Heathrow airport for letting another flight taking our gate. They took us off via stairs and bussed us to the main terminal, adding about 30 minutes to the very long flight. Oh, and somehow I managed to get a very large piece of sticky red candy off the floor onto the back of my pants.
Took the tube into central London and walked from Holborn station to our first location, Pickwick Hall. Patrick is a wonderfully helpful owner, even allowing me to use his phone to make a quick call to verify our tickets for tomorrow's train/ferry to Amsterdam. Good thing too, because it's about 1 pence (1/100 of pound) per second (about 2 cents per second). After working out that little detail, we headed out to find a small bite to eat, landing ourselves at a cafe. David ordered an English breakfast and I ordered a sandwich if that gives you any idea as to how confused we are about the time changes. We made a quick stop to the British Museum, which is about a block from our hostel. We saw some of the Egyptian, Greek, and Asian displays, but we missed out on the room that had all the scrolls and drawings (closes early). For those kung-fu people getting this email, there was a scroll of Bodhidarma that I was hoping to see. But I wasn't disappointed by the other pieces of the Chinese collection. So now I'm sitting in my hostel typing this up, preparing to get some real sleep. We've got a pretty early morning tomorrow, our trip to Amsterdam starts with an 8am train ride. -Jessica
