We're in Telluride! It's so cool to be here and to be able to see it for myself after hearing about it from Silas all winter while he was working here. It seems like a really cool town, but unfortunately it's been raining off and on since we got here this morning. When we got here the town seemed really busy and when we pulled up to the campground we found out that the 'Blues and Brews Festival' had just ended and they were trying to empty the campground before letting anyone in so we just went and parked and walked around town a little bit. Silas took me to his favorite coffee shop and then we went back to the campground to take showers before doing anything else. $2 for 5 minutes of hot water! My shower was scalding hot, but I didn't want to waste precious time to stop and try to adjust it, so I just left it how it was and tried to wash as fast as I could. After we got done with showers we rode the gondola up to Mountain Village and walked around a little. The gondola was kind of scary at first. It seemed like it was moving really fast and Silas was scaring me with comments like, 'I've never heard it make THAT noise before'. It was rainy and cloudy, but it was a really nice view from up there.
We spent last night at a campground just about 15 miles west of here. Thank god we're sleeping in the bus and not in a tent because it was POURING last night. There was thunder and lightning off and on pretty much all night long and even into this morning. I made my famous 'Macaroni Beef Saute' last night for dinner, which I had practiced before leaving to make sure I still remembered how to make it. Mom, you'll be happy to know that I've improved from when I used to make it in high school- it was edible this time! We ended the evening by laying in the bus and watching 'The Wonder Years'. Silas bought the entire series on DVD and brought it along on the trip for us to watch. I'd only seen a few episodes when I was growing up (we didn't get ABC) but I think I'm already hooked!!
Let's see...what else. Well, the first two days of the trip were pretty much just trying to make it down here as fast as we could so we didn't really stop to see anything. The part of the trip that we were both kind of dreading and wanting to get past was driving through the whole Salt Lake City, Ogden, Provo mess. God, that part really sucks to drive through. We ended up going through it at about midnight and I have to say, I think it sucks at any time of the day. Poor Silas- he was the one who had to drive through it, I actually kept falling asleep. But I felt his pain. :(

It's great to be here in Telluride with Allison and show her all of the places she heard so much about on the phone. I'm just hoping this rain clears out by tomorrow so we can take a hike up to one of my favorite spots, Bridal Veil Falls. But for now it's just nice to be able to relax after the long haul down from Missoula. We bought some cards for a board game called "Cranium", to entertain ourselves in the bus until the weather improves. The trip down here was pretty uneventful since we were on a mission to get down here as soon as possible. But uneventful is good! It's always a pleasant surprise when the bus makes it somewhere without mishap. Tomorrow afternoon we'll be leaving Telluride for my dad's house in Flagstaff, AZ, where we will make last minute preparations for our raft trip on the San Juan River.
Silas
The Kombi Report: Currently in fair condition. There is a leak in the exhaust manifold and a pretty good oil leak in the engine. On rainy days, the bus leaves a rainbow in it's wake. :) The accelerator pedal started getting "sticky" in Idaho. The signal lights aren't working and the front brakes need to be replaced. Going to take it to the shop in Flagstaff while we are rafting, to get the brakes replaced, the accelerator pedal unstickied, and the signal lights working. But all and all, it is running great!

Comments
On the road again...
Congrats on the macaroni beef saute turning out good. **Note to Silas - it's not bad if it's macaroni beef saute. It becomes pretty bad when she starts calling it 'macaroni beef thing'.
I'm happy to hear the trip is uneventful to this point. When you're a mom reading about the trip, uneventful is REAL good. Have fun and be sure to keep this thing updated. Allison - you know my ability to worry and how it can get out of hand!
Snoooopy, why oh why did you go
Guys,
I have been looking, and I'm so glad to finally see an entry! Like your mom, I too can be a bit of a worrier. There's not much else to do in Missoula since you left, but worry. Just kidding. I'm so glad the bus is doing well! Maybe that hippy chick cast a good spell on it last year. Be careful! We miss you!
