Eric- On Friday 9 June, Mark's bike was repaired and we left Switzerland on Saturday 10 June, 5 days behind schedule. The weather was fine and we got going on the motorway cruising at 120k's until we got into our first traffic jam in Briggs. We weaved our way through and started the climb up the Simplon Pass. The scenery was splendid but it got a bit cold passing through the tunnels.
We arrived at the Swiss border and after some confusion by the Swiss Custom got our Carnets stamped. Then it was the same routine again at the Italian Custom except that they ignored the instructions and stamped the entry and exit as well! Well, they can sort it out when we leave Italy.
Down to Domodossola and on the Autostrada towards Milano where we got into the biggest traffic jam I have ever seen We survived through the traffic, I lost sight of Mark at one stage but found him again later
We covered 500 km on that first day and stoped at Lake Garda, just past Brescia.
Next day was a short 180km to Venezia where we spent a couple of days visiting this fascinating City. The crowds of tourists were overwhelming.
On Tuesday, we left Venezia for Firenze, another beautiful City noted for its arts.
Thursday....on the road again for Pisa where the tower is still hanging in there and does not seem anymore tilted as when I saw it 52 years ago.
After lunch, we continued on to Sienna via Volterra and V.d'Elsa Pass, a great scenic road without too much traffic.
We arrived in Roma yesterday and after many k's getting lost on the ring road, found a camp site near the City.
From here, the access to the City by Bus and Metro is easy. We visited the Vatican, Fountain of Trevi, Monument Victor Emanuel II, Coliseum etc.
Since the introduction of the Euro, things got quite expensive in Europe. A litre of fuel is around Euro 1.32, approx. A$ 2.20
To visit the Coliseum will set you back 11 Euro.
Tomorrow, we are heading for the southern part of Italy via Napoli.
Stand by for more news in a weeks time.

. The traffic speed varied between 0 and 150 km/h plus. We stuck to the right lanes and let the madness pass us.We covered 500 km on that first day and stoped at Lake Garda, just past Brescia.
