Hotel Royal, Fes
Pleasantly warm
Yesterday was a relaxing day in Meknes. Having wandered around the Ville Nouvelle for a while, bought some avocado and salad stuff for lunch, we went back to the hotel and sat on the roof terrace in the shade. It was in the high 30's for most of yesterday and the day before, so finding a shady spot with a bit of a breeze was a result. In fact, when we went out in the evening we both took our fleeces and commented at how cool it was, then we spotted a temperature gauge and saw it was 23 degrees. I think we have fully acclimitised.
The other good thing about yesterday was we discovered the alcohol shop, yey! Not only did they have cold beer (Flag Dutch beer brewed in Casablanca) but they had cold wine too! So having supped a cold beer and half a bottle of Morocco's finest rose wine each, we promptly fell asleep. It was 8.45.
Today we rode to Fes, a pretty easy 65kms. On the way we bought some pomegranates from a seller at the side of the road and had them for lunch. We also spotted a chameleon taking his life into his claws crossing a national highway. We both stopped and watched as cars missed him by just inches, but I'm pleased to report he lived to crawl another day.
Dave has officially got dreads, well, two knots in his hair that he can't comb out (even if he had a comb) so we're calling them dreads. He's already cut one out from the front of his hair, but they seem to be multiplying.
Tomorrow we'll investigate the bus situation up to Nador. It looks like we'll have to stay in Nador overnight and catch the ferry to Spain early on the 9th.
We're staying in the Ville Nouvelle part of Fes as we've got a little bit fed up of staying in Medinas, and by all accounts the medina here is HUGE. We're going to do the walking tour of the Medina (from the LP book) tomorrow and I'm going to look for sandals as my lovely jewel encrusted flip flops finally bit the dust in Khemisset the other night. Lucky for me the town was quite clean, as I had to walk home with one of my feet bare.
