Edlunda, Swedish Archipelago
Jul 02, 2012
We have been staying, luxuriously, at our friend's Steve and Lovisa Rubins' house on Edlunda Island and we are very sorry to be leaving. Stockholm has been wonderful and we feel very, very spoiled. It won't be easy to go back to the bikes and sleeping in our tent. For the past few days we have traded our tent for a cottage on an island and our bikes for boats in the Swedish archipelago. Yes, very spoiled indeed. Another espresso, Darling? Yes, and be quick about it! Tomorrow we're back to reality and a ferry ride across the Baltic sea to Latvia, formerly of the Soviet Union. We land in Riga which is a UNESCO World Heritage city and is supposed to be wonderful. From there we will probably take a bus to the far west coast and then bike south into Lithuanian where we will catch another ferry back down south to Sassnitz, Germany. Steve and Lovisa have been fantastic hosts. We've visited superb museums, taken the kids waterskiing, eaten lots of fish, drank just the right amount of red wine, maybe a little too much Swedish schnaps depending on whether or not you could hear my singing, the whole stay has been a bit dreamy. In fact, Steve just walked in and asked me if I'd like a beer before I indulge in a genuine Swedish sauna (everyone has them here, as they should). So I'm off! Reality is for tomorrow, not today.
