We went to Alloa for one very good reason. Because the Williams Brothers Brewing Company appears to have rediscovered the secret of brewing Leanne Fraoch (heather ale) which everyone including HVM believed had been lost forever. The last bloke who knew how to make it is supposed to have flung himself to his death hundreds of years ago rather than reveal the secret to his captors.

Slightly less tragic but still sad - the brewery was closed it being a Sunday and all. A tour of Alloa itself turned up nothing - the off-licences were all closed and the supermarkets didn't stock it.

I had visions of phoning the brewery on Monday and having a consignment shipped to a camp site ahead of us somewhere but then we hit liquid gold with Ellie's Cellar a wondrous emporium down the road in Dollar.

Our four bottles should be nicely chilled by the time we reach the Mull of Galloway near the end of the trip. This is where HVM related what he believed to be the loss of the recipe and where we'll drink the rediscovered nectar that is heather ale. [ISA 4.10].
